Mending: A Stitch in Time, Saves Nine
Mending
I do not always follow the saying “a stitch in time, saves nine,” but it is truly sage advice! I recently made the effort to mend two pieces of clothing. A pair of pajama pants and a denim shirt. I’ve had them set aside for a while, and finally got to doing the task of sewing up the rips.
I don’t have an abundance of pajama pants, and it’s hard to find a pair I really like, so that was my motivation to mend them. The denim shirt is a hand-me-down from a friend, and I just love it! In my mind the task of sewing up a rip is a big job, so I’m tempted to throw something out when it needs mending. It’s a great feeling to spend a little time sewing up rips, though, so that I can continue enjoying my favourite clothes. I highly recommend this eco-friendly habit.
Sewing Kits
I have a small sewing kit that has come in handy on many occasions. I would like to do more sewing. Making clothes from scratch is an interest of mine. Right now, though, doing small mending projects is the reality.
If you don’t have a small sewing kit like mine, yet then it is a great purchase to consider. These days it’s common for a ripped item to be thrown out. There is often a lot of life left in these items, if we’re willing to put in a few minutes of repair.
