Sustainable Make-Up: Refill Mascara

Refill Mascara by Birch Babe

Refill Mascara

While I still don’t wear make-up or mascara on most days, I recently purchased birch babe’s refill mascara. It’s nice to have the option to enhance my look on some days. Now that I don’t feel compelled to wear make-up, I can enjoy it on special occasions!

How To

Using refill mascara is different than disposable mascara. Refill mascara comes as a dry black puck. A mascara wand is used to apply the product but first getting the wand wet, then rolling the wand in the dry mascara, then applying to your lashes. I’ve only used the product a handful of times so far, but it looks similar to mascara applied from disposable wands. There are likely some extra features you can get from disposable mascara with patent wand brushes and other features, but I love that beach babe mascara is free from unhealthy additives, better for the environment, and does the trick!!

Make-Up Thoughts

Make-up can really enhance a person’s look and it’s fun to apply and be creative with. So, I hope this blog post doesn’t sound like I’m against people wearing make-up, because I’m not!

After having kids I stopped wearing makeup as much. There are a couple of reasons for that. I’ve become very aware of additives in products that aren’t healthy for me and potentially for my kids if they’re in contact with my face (which they often are!).

Also, If I’m focusing time on applying make-up, does it send my daughter a message that I’m not “okay” the way I am? And I wonder if I’m sending myself the same message. I used to feel like I needed to apply mascara and face powder before going out. Since I’ve stopped wearing make-up I always feel ready to leave the house or be seen. Men typically don’t wear make-up, whether or not their skin is perfect, and that inspired me to feel like I don’t need to cover up in order to be “okay.”

Is make-up a fun extra for you, or do you feel like you need it? Let me know via contact page.
