Thrifted Wrapping Paper
I was excited to see that Mission Thrift sells partly used rolls of wrapping paper… Game changer!
Reusable Cloths vs. Papertowels?
Full disclosure, we use both cloth towels and paper towels in our house. Based on the categories considered in this review, cloth towels are the better option compared to paper towels.
Refill ‘Ya Vanilla
It seems to go this way, with non-weekly items: I intend to purchase my next quantity at the refill store, eventually I run out, I forget to pick it up at the refill store, and end up buying it at the regular grocery store in a pinch. Glad I made the “switch” for vanilla!
Receipts by E-mail
This is a relatively easy change to make. Just like everything when it comes to reducing waste, the receipts add up. If we can reduce the number of printed receipts we receive that is a good thing.
No Flyers, Please!
This eco-friendly change should have been easy but I spent a lot of time overthinking it. I pictured the “no flyers sign” being made by a label maker, which I don’t have. I decided to write a label by hand and tape it on with packing tape!
Refill Chocolate Galore!
This has been one of my favourite swaps. I am a big fan of chocolate. I eat it every day! I rate this swap: EASY.
Sustainable Make-Up: Refill Mascara
While I still don’t wear make-up or mascara on most days, I recently purchased birch babe’s refill mascara. I love that it doesn’t have harsh additives and it doesn’t create waste.
Sustainable Menstrual Products: Washable Pads
Making the transition to reusable menstrual products has been one of the more difficult swaps for me. The main obstacle was getting over my own habit and mindset, but I’m really happy with this swap!
Refill Sugar (oh, honey honey)
Sugar is sugar, and refill sugar is exactly the same as pre-packaged sugar. I’m happy with this swap and plan to keep it up.
Mending: A Stitch in Time, Saves Nine
In my mind the task of sewing up a rip is a big job, so I’m tempted to throw something out when it needs mending. It’s a great feeling to spend a little time sewing up rips, though. I highly recommend this eco-friendly habit!
Refill Spices: Pepper
I’ve just been waiting for the chance to try out refill spices! We recently ran out of pepper, so here’s how it’s going…
Trying Zero Waste At Work
I’ve been focusing on reducing waste at home, and now I’m looking for ways to reduce waste at work, too. Moon doh is a great, low waste activity because it only requires two ingredients: hair conditioner and cornstarch.
Easy Swap: Refill Olive Oil
You have to try this easy swap! I keep my olive oil in a mason jar and find it easy to dispense and delicious for everything from baking to cooking.
Make Me a Sustainable Cup of Tea
To start drinking zero waste tea you’ll need a metal tea strainer or metal tea bag. Then you’ll need tea leaves. My favourite tea flavours are earl gray and herbal blends… what are yours??
Refill Deodorant: Fresh (+ Compostable) as a Rose
This swap was moderately difficult to make. My favourite deod came in a plastic container though, which doesn’t fit with my zero waste goals!
One Month Mason Jar Challenge (Garbage Audit)
To sum things up, my garbage for the month of February did not fit in a mason jar. It was still an incredibly eye opening experience and I’m glad I did it. You should try it, too!
Let’s Taco ‘Bout Refill Seasoning
I love this swap. Using refill taco seasoning is delicious, zero waste and cost effective. There’s no reason to hold off on this swap!!
T-oats Sustainable
I have a feeling the idea of storing supplies in tupperware type containers comes from the past when people would have been buying/storing in bulk. I’m very happy with this swap!
Is Refill Rice Affordable?
Now that I’m in the habit of shopping at the refill store, swapping packaged rice for refill rice was pretty easy. Does it cost more, though?
Plastic We Don’t Need: Produce Bags
We are creatures of habit, which offers many benefits but it also means we get stuck in our ways. Do you still use produce bags? What do you use instead?
